Lock and Dam 24
Today the guy who owns the RV park at the former Lock and Dam 24 site near Racine, Ohio, a few miles below the Racine Locks and Dam, let me wander around and get lots of pictures of the site, including inside the old powerhouse. As usual, I shot lots and lots, and it will take time to process them. Here are two of the old lock's powerhouse.
I believe the two residential buildings remain. If so, they are the two I saw across Ohio 124 from the powerhouse.

Sign in mirror
Note to self: Clean mirror before taking any more pictures of reflections.
I did see a boat starting to lock downbound, but I wanted to get home and didn't want to wait 30 minutes until it see it up close. Maybe next time.

Four more boats (and then some)
A few more from yesterday at Catlettsburg.
The Galveston Bay waiting for its spot at the Marathon Petroleum dock.
The Debi Sharp. The wind was strong enough to whip up some waves on the water.
A fishing boat overtakes the Linda Taylor.
And the Catlettsburg rounds the bend before heading downriver.
It was one of those days where I could have posted dozens of pictures, but doing so probably overwhelmed the readers here.

M/V Louisville
I saw a lot of boats today and got more pictures than I intended to. Only one guy stepped out of the wheelhouse to wave. There may have been others, but the guy on this boat was the only one I noticed, so I guess I'll post pictures of his boat first.
This is one of those days where I don't know what I'm going to do with all these pictures I shot. Maybe I'll just do super quick edits (if any) to fix flaws and either post them or print them. Or both. That's always an option.

Three boats at Kenova
I went to Kenova yesterday to see the Dan Elder come down the river. Given what's happened with coal-burning power plants in the past 15 years, we don't see these big AEP boats up this way as often as we once did. If I recall correctly, AEP ordered 10 of these boats before fracking and renewables killed the coal plants. AEP sold off most of its fleet a while back and it has either three or four of these boats left. I've lost track.
And as I was waiting for the Dan Elder to come past my position, the Caroline and the (Marathon) West Virginia came by. We have two boats up here called the West Virginia now. It can make for some confusion and maybe some hard feelings.
One thing I like about that last one is the angle of the shadow of the stair steps on the stern. Here's a closeup.

Sternwheelers on the Ohio, part 1 (maybe)
The annual Tribute to the River at Point Pleasant WV is past. I didn't make it up there today, as I had a home improvement chore that needed to be done. But I did run up there yesterday after work and got a few shots as the sun set and darkness took over. Here are a few.
First, the late afternoon sun as seen through the sternwheel of the Mudsock.
Here are three shots taken from the stern of the Nemacolin. My thanks to Nemcolin owner Brian Patterson for giving me access to that part of his boat to get the pics.
And a few more.
I took that last one with my phone. It overexposed the scene, but when I started to darken it I didn't like how it looked, so I left it alone.
The next two sternwheel festivals in my part of the Ohio River are at Marietta next weekend and in Pomeroy the weekend of the 23rd. I probably won't make it to Marietta because of the distance, but I do like my chances of being in Pomeroy.
There may be others, but I don't know of them. Let me know if you know.
