From this angle, it looks like the top of the barge is at or above the pilot's eye level. So does he steer by radar? Does he keep one eye on the radar screen and the other on that big gray thing in front of him? Is there some other device or method he uses to navigate? He must have a terrible blind spot, and there were several recreational craft out on the river today.

That looks like a Consol vessel,I hope he is useing a CEACT system.Not sure how long he was,but with that view and 5 long you have nearly a 1500' blind spot from the head of the tow. It does cause some anxious moments for the pilot when a pleasure boater gets in the blind spot, you are not sure where he is at untill you see him on the side of your tow.
I think he was pushing four barges arranged two by two. I should have mentioned that.
