Fetching water?
Seen the other day. This is one of those things where I guess what the guy is doing and figure the real thing is either a lot more interesting or a lot less interesting than what my imagination comes up with.
I cannot believe anyone doing that,when I seen this photo today,I got a sick feeling in my stomach,the tow is underway,he has very little work space on that box end hopper.That's a NO!NO!.Safety person's nightmare!!!.I hope someone talks to the young deckhand before it's to late.
I love the Ohio River. I enjoy reading about the river, smelling the river, photographing the river, listening to its sounds ... and we can share them here.

Too bad we can't ask him what in the world he is doing!
He is undoubtedly getting water to prime a gasoline (or diesel) powered pump...most likely had a leaker somewhere in the tow/fleet.
Could very be getting water to prime a jigger (sump)pump to pump out the voids or hopper
