M/V or mv. ?

An old-timer doesn't like how I abbreviate "motor vessel" as "mv." He would prefer I use the method "M/V" ...

Which should it be? I reserve the final decision, of course, but if anyone out there has an opinion to share, I'd like to hear it.

I always thought it was M. V., as in Motor Vessel. Two words, two periods.

I've always seen it as M/V, but the Stylebook is silent on the issue.

M/V is the acronym I've seen more than the other. Of course... it's a lot quicker to type mv :-)

I usually see written as MV (upper case) more than M/V or mv
