Here's an old photo with a pilot's-eye view of going through one of the old locks on the Ohio River near Huntington. The photo caption says this is old Lock 28, but I'd say it was Lock 27.
When you click on the link, look at the grid of photos beside the big one, which is a Marshall football game. It's the fourth one down on the left side. Click on it to see the picture.

I have been looking at the photo, you are right about it being old lock #27. there was a flashing red light just below the lock on the W.Va.bank called Dogham bend light.I believe the towboat in the photo is either the M/V Leigh or Cornell of the then Union Barge Line.I base that on the shape of the pilot house window and awning. This photo brings back a lot of memories of double lockage at those old locks.By the way,how are we doing with the M/V (mv) post? I noticed the comments.
I've made up my mind on the M/V(mv.) question, but I'm giving people a couple more days to change my mind before I go public with my decision and the reasons for it. Those reasons include an old-time lesson in pre-computer typography.
Jim, FYI - I think they changed that link.
Fixed, sort of. Thanks.
