Hauling crude by barge

Here's more on the plan by Marathon Petroleum to refine crude oil from Ohio's Utica shale at its Catlettsburg, Ky., refinery. Part of the plan is the possibility of trucking oil to Marathon terminals in the Steubenville, Ohio, area and transporting it by barge to Catlettsburg.

Marathon is also transporting Canadian crude oil---loading it onto barges at Wood River, Il and offloading it at its Garyville, La refinery.

Doesn't surprise me. It's not Marathon, but a lot of oil coming out of the Bakken shale in North Dakota is hauled by train to the Gulf Coast because there isn't enough pipeline capacity up there to handle it all. It looks like our pipleline system is behind our production system.
