A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday for the new Ohio River bridge between Ironton, Ohio, and Russell, Ky, to replace the 90-year-old one that's in use now. I wish I could be there.

The Ohio River -- on it, in it, over it, beside it. No politics.

I cross the old I-R bridge several times a week. Looking upriver you can see they have definitely started. They've cleared land on both shores.
But on the KY side, at the top of the Russell viaduct, there's a large form for the 1st concrete pier going up. They've several cranes there, one crane/barge anchored just offshore and several others on the river banks. As I traverse Rt 23 it seems there's always a semi-load of rebar being off-loaded. It's busy up there.
On the OH side they've part of 1st and 2nd street in Ironton blocked off. They appear to be replacing and re-routing sewer lines.
I think they're finally going to build a new bridge. Woo Hoo!
