My grandfather, Col. Harry Pockras, was District Engineer for the Corps of Engineers in Huntington during much of WW2. Earlier, he had been the Corps' civilian Chief Engineer. He was the head of the design team for the dam and the old 1937 locks.
I'm looking for the dedication date / picnic held on completion of the 1937 Gallipolis Dam. My grandfather, Marvin Edwin Goff, worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers through the Civil Service, as one of the photographers for the dam project. My mother remembers a big event / picnic held for the families of all the workers on the dam project, but she doesn't remember the date. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
I love the Ohio River. I enjoy reading about the river, smelling the river, photographing the river, listening to its sounds ... and we can share them here.
