M/V Oliver C. Shearer

I always take notice when I see the Oliver C. Shearer pass by. How can you not? What other boat on the Ohio River has smokestacks as distinctive as those on the Shearer? I've gotten a lot of pictures of the Shearer since my first one in the late 1970s, mostly from the bank. Today I had the chance to get some overhead shots, and in this first one you get another idea of the size of the stacks.

While I was looking down at the barges passing under me, I saw this deckhand opening hatches on the barges, peering inside briefly and moving on to the next one.

And one more, from the rear.

This is one of those boats that I would like to have an hour or two with sometime, so I can savor its lines and look for the definitive photo. I don't have it yet, but I will.
