Boats from a trip upriver

Last week I went up to the Willow Island Locks and Dam to cover the dedication ceremony for the new hydroelectric power plants there and at Cannelton and Smithland. It turned out to be a good day for seeing boats, especially ones I rarely see here in the Huntington WV area.

First, one that I think is the J. Carole Neale as seen from the park at the mouth of the Little Kanawha.

This is the Hoosier State locking upbound as seen from the roof of the Willow Island hydro plant.

Here is the Tom Behringer as seen from the fishing area below the Willow Island dam. It, too, is locking upbound.

At the Belleville Locks and Dam, I saw the AEP Legacy downbound.

Below Belleville, waiting its turn, was the Michael T. Somales. I might have seen this boat twice since I covered its dedication on June 20, 2015, but I'm not sure.

There were a couple of others that fit in with an upcoming entry on coal on the river.
