A couple of news items today

Two news items from this area caught my interest this morning:

The creeks that flow into the Ohio River in my neck of the woods are more contaminated with E. coli than the river itself, a high school junior has found, according to an article in The Ironton Tribune. The student's work grew from a science fair project, and he presented his findings at an American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting. Cool.

The W.P. Snyder Jr., after having been relocated to South Point OH from Marietta OH a few weeks ago, is in the drydock at McGinnis Inc., and workers have started work on its new hull plating, according to The Independent of Ashland KY.

Adam and I saw the Snyder in the drydock at least twice in the past few days when we went to Catlettsburg looking for particular boats. Check out this photo on my Flickr site.

hey there, I just happened upon your blog this morning while looking for sites about cruising the ohio. the article on the Becky Thatcher caught my eye. Becky and I happen to share the same last name! A long time ago I attended Duquesne U , and I would often sit on the bluff in the evenings and watch the tows moving up and down the river. During that time, I often dreamed of making a trip myself. I got as far as buying the river charts from the corps of engineers.. I am afraid that I will need to buy an updated set by the time I actually make the trip! In the meantime, I will continue to dream... thanks for the effort that you are putting into recording your experiences on the river. It is great that you have a buddy who appears to be just as eager to get a look at new boats and other wonders that are associated with the river. keep up the good work!
